What is a Submersible Well Pump?

A submersible pump pushes water to the surface and delivers it from your well directly to a reservoir in your home. This pump is specifically designed to operate beneath the earth’s surface and must be completely submerged in water. Submersible pumps usually last longer than other types of well pumps.

At Tri-County Pumps, we only use state-of-the-art, high-quality equipment for an efficient installation process and quick turnaround time. Our submersible well pump is great for various depths and works reliably for decades.

Submersible Well Pumps Parts

It can be an overwhelming task to fully understand the intricacies of submersible well pumps. That’s why we’ve created a brief chart to illustrate some of the most critical aspects of submersible pumps:

Submersible Well Pumps

Check Valve

The check valve is one of the most important parts of a submersible well pump as it is used to keep the water from flowing back into the well when the pump shuts off. If air leaks in, water can leak out, and vice-versa.

Pitless Adapter

In colder climates, the drop pipe will need to leave the pump’s casing at some point below freezing. A pitless adapter accomplishes just that as it is used to connect the well pump discharge pipe to the horizontal pipe that enters the home.

Well Cap

A well cap sticks out of the ground and includes a vented screen so the pressure difference between the inside and outside of the well casing is equalized. We recommend using a bug-proof well cap. Our team can also make custom well caps for Artesian wells.

Well Seal

Also known as a sanitary seal, this component seals off the top of the well from the environment and other potential contamination, allowing for drop pipes and wires to go through. A well seal also supports the weight of the drop pipe and the pump.

Pressure Tank

A pressure tank uses compressed air to push pressurized water out of the tank and into your home. This tank provides water storage for delivery between cycles, helps reduce overall system maintenance, and much more.

Pressure Relief Valve

Every submersible well pump installation MUST have a pressure relief valve to prevent tank rupture if the pressure in your system exceeds safe limits. This valve provides protection if the pressure switch were to fail.

Pressure Switch

The pressure switch is a critical component for the system’s smooth operation. As pressure increases (when the tank fills), the contact interrupts the circuit to stop the pump.

Tank Tee

A tank tee is designed to connect your pressure tank to your water line. This allows the mounting of the switch and gauge in an orderly manner.
